PROJECT 1 : PAYING IT FORWARD
Animal welfare should be recognized as an issue of importance as part of the social development of nations worldwide. Treatment of animals reflects a community's values and shows how a community react conscientiously to the helpless and needy, a moral value much needed in today's society where morals and ethics have decreased dangerously. Therefore, our group has decided to select PAWS as our site and cause in this project as we believe that it can provide us with the experience of engaging in a community project while exercising our creative problem skills.
PAWS is an animal shelter off Ara Damansara that is suffering from overcrowding problems, severe neglect in terms of maintenance and consequently low adoption rates. In a group of 10, we devided to bring about change by improving the aesthetics of the shelter by means of lanscaping and general upkeep(i.e. painting, scrubbing,general repairs) to attract more adoptees and raise funds through several activities.
The objectives of this assignment are as follows:
1. To increase awareness of current environmental issues locally
2. To induce creativity in attempting to explore the current environmental circumstances
3. To allow students to explore the opportunity to work with the community and for the community
4. To create awareness of the importance of creating and environmentally sustainable product/design/services
5. To be able to understand and explain the principles of sustainability from environmental and social
perspective
REPORT
PROJECT 2 : NATURE AND US
Environmental issues have become a great concern for mankind at present time as these issues are affecting
and will affect earth and us badly. The recent water rationing in Selangor is a grim reminder of possible
repercussions in future if vital resources are not utilized wisely. As such, there are quite a number of
environmentalists or movement either government or non-governmental trying to improve various environmental
crisis in the best way they can.
Study trip to Taman Negara Pahang to experience and reconnect with nature as designers. In a group of two, we were to reproduce our reflections in the form of a two part journal(group & individual.
Obejctives:
• To increase awareness of current environmental issues locally and globally
• To explore the local and global context of growth and therefore realizing the relationship between growth and
its impact on the environment.
