Project 1 - Fettucine Truss Bridge
The objectives of this project are as follows
- To develop student’s understanding of tension and compressive strength of construction materials
- To develop student’s understanding of force distribution in a truss
- To design a perfect truss bridge which fulfils the following criterias:
- High level of aesthetic value
- Minimal construction material
Project 2 - Extension of a R.C. bungalow
The project is an integrated component where it involves structural theory, force calculation and basic structural proposal. This project is designed to allow the demonstration of knowledge and understanding of building structure.
Structural proposal to the renovation work should include the following items:
ï‚· Design brief which summarize the weight of material and live load assumed
ï‚· Structural plan for every floor (foundation plan, ground floor plan, first floor plan and roof plan) to indicate the framing of the extension
ï‚· Load distribution plans for beam design (indicate live load assumed for each room on floor plans) (live load for roof is taken as 0.5kN/m2 and 1.0kN/m2 as dead load)
ï‚· Analysis of minimum 6 beams which inclusive
o Load Diagram
o Bending moment diagram
o Shear force diagrams
